国宝”的“偶然”发现

秦兵马俑是1974年3月29日当地农民在打井时偶然发现的。

这年5月，记者蔺安稳从北京回陕西临潼探亲。在临潼县文化馆工作的夫人与之闲谈时提起，秦始皇帝陵附近出土了陶俑。作为对西安历史文化有深入了解的记者，蔺安稳对此深感好奇。

第二天，蔺安稳来到正在修复陶俑的当地考古工作者赵康民的工作室。赵康民正在修复一座陶俑，地上堆放着许多陶片。另一座已大体修复好的陶俑立在那里，高高的个头，同真人一般大小，雄赳赳，气昂昂，熟读史书的蔺安稳一眼就判定是秦代士兵的形象，是难得的“国宝”。

蔺安稳在家一个多月后，休假期满，回到北京，撰写了《秦始皇陵出土一批秦代武士陶俑》报道。报道说，这批陶俑身穿军服，手执武器，是按照秦代士兵的真实形象塑造的。秦始皇帝陵周围以前曾出土过陶俑，但都是一些体积不大的跪俑，像这种同真人一样的立俑，还是第一次发现。特别珍贵的地方，在于这是一批武士。这批武士陶俑的发现，对于评价秦始皇、研究秦代的政治、经济、军事，都有极大的价值。

在报道中，蔺安稳还指出，秦始皇帝陵是全国重点文物保护单位，可是没有得到妥善保护。生产队随意在陵园掘土挖坑，开荒种地。出土文物中的金属制品，有的竟被当作废铜烂铁销毁掉，一些石制、陶制物品则被丢来抛去。
